Burning Man 2009

Burning Man 2009 started out as the year from hell. Camp discord was made worse when placement misread a request and did the opposite, placing our camp outside the official theme camp area. That meant not putting the art in camp. Then the DMV didn't want to licence the art car (it's getting tougher) and a whole host of other things went wrong.

However, it all got better after a few days on the playa.

For more information on Burning Man in general, check out my essays of prior years and my Panorama Intro Page and my 2009 Panorama page which features my newest shots that go beyond a gigapixel.

You can read a recent essay on thoughts on the nature of Burning Man.

Are you in here?

If you're in one of these shots naked and don't want to be, let me know and I'll see if I can find an alternate or blur you. I wasn't always able to get permission on group shots.

While a decent year for art, it did not live up to prior years in my view. The theme was hard to express and the best art, like the Raygun Rocket, did not relate much to it.

Photography & The Wall

This year's photo wall was quite different. First, it was placed in the Playa about 200' from the esplanade near 8:30. It was smaller, and featured, in line with the evolution theme, 11 years of the giant photo, all the same size, to show the evolution of the city.
