The most talked about art piece was a giant sculpture in the deep
playa made from over $250,000 of fine Canadian 2x3 boards, joined by
a large crew with nailguns. It was built by a team from Belgium,
who called it "Message from the Future" and "Euchronia."
But in a great example of American boorishness, somehow the only thing
from Belgium people could think about was waffles, so it became
known as "the waffle" by everybody. It didn't look at all like a
waffle. It was an interesting feat of engineering and art. By day
they added to it. At night it was a dance club. While I wasn't
there, it burned very quickly.
