Mount Hood

Mount Hood

We headed from the Sisters area first into Smith Rocks State Park, which while quite worthwhile doesn't hold a candle to the similar scenery in Utah, and then along the Crooked River to Cove Palisades State Park, where we saw a spectacular sunset.

From there we drove quickly to camp in the Mount Hood National Forest. The GPS guided us in the dark to Trillium Lake. In the morning we were met with a stunning sight -- the misty mirror-flat lake and the beautiful snow-capped volcano. Took a lot of pictures.

From there we drove along Mount Hood to reach the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. We drove along the Washington side to The Dalles and then back to Hood River, and along to the Bridge of the Gods where we bought salmon and prepared to take the old highway for spectacular views.

Alas, the gorge was very hazy during our trip.
