What's strange about this panorama? It's from the top of the Bay Bridge but the unusual thing is that it's from 1971. Look at the Embarcadero freeway, and at the brand-new Pyramid building.

My friend Bruce Steinberg, artist and photographer, was doing a book on the Bay Bridge. When up at the top, he decided to snap a series of overlapping slides of the view, not knowing that some day computers would be able to blend them. I scanned the mouldy slides and made the panorama.

A helicopter panorama of San Francisco and Oakland, shot about 2000' above and south of the Bay Bridge. Due to helicopter movement the two ends don't join up which is why you see a repeat of some of San Francisco. Helicopter panoramas are new (these are some of the first in the world) and difficult.
