Burning Man 2005

Here are my panoramas from the 2005 Black Rock City.

In 2005 I got the use of a boomlift (cherry picker) at sunset on Friday. In addition, earlier in the week I went on an art tour in the giant Purple Palace art-bus with the chance to shoot panoramas from its high rear platform.

Please note these panoramas are very large and recommended mostly for people with broadband connections. I have made them even larger this year, though most of the files are at 10 times less resolution than the real originals -- you need to see them printed.

Viewing Hint: Put your browser in "full screen" mode, usually by pressing F11 so you can see the full height of a pano on your monitor. Hit F11 again to restore the browser size.

Just before sunset, the city is captured from a boomlift high above center camp. This one is full of people and vehicles doing interesting things, riding around, marching to the man and much more. The setting sun is seen at both the left and right sides of the photo, the open playa in the middle.

About 20 minutes before the sun hits the mountains, from a boomlift on the open playa, about 6:20. See the billion bunny protest march moving through the keyhole of center camp, the dance of the umbrellay guy and a city getting ready for its last night before the burn.

Because much of this is shot into the sunset, some of the people and vehicles are quite dark, including the bunny marchers.

In the bright daytime, we gather on the Purple Palace for an art tour. This wide angle shot captures the bustle of center camp by the Artery, including the long ice line.

Another super-wide angle shot, done at sunset, allows you to see the full extent of the center camp cafe and the city around it.
